Solon, I subscribe to the social contract school of thought on rights. We have rights because of our contract with society. I agree not to kill you if you agree not to kill me, and society enforces it. Nothing more, nothing less. It's in all our best interests to honor the contract.

X and I have concurred on this before--another time, another thread.
