Siemens relationships in Germany? That is true and the very reason, why Siemens as an example right now buys 3G base-stations from NEC and just puts the Siemens logo on top. Does Siemens make money on that? No way, being late out as usual they just buy time.
But fast routers are needed and Siemens (or Unisphere) has zilch - except for relationships: A perfect broker position for a trading house!!
Yes, Siemens could in theory use some of its rich cash hoard to buy its way. Large acquisitions, however, seem to be against the low-risk house philosophy. Also the past proves, that Siemens has no clue of how to make acquisitions work out. Pretty much like Daimler and Chrysler, a cultural problem the Germans seem to share with the Japanese. Another area, BTW where Cisco obviously excels...
