I have just finished Kozol's Savage Inequalities. Have you read it? It is an amazing book. Very sad- but for pointing out the systemic inequalities in our system of education, and the entrenched belief that privilege is a birthright, and poverty and ignorance are as well, I don't think I've ever read anything that was more powerful.

Suffering counts for nothing in your construct. Your personal concept of a "soul" in each fertilized egg counts for everything, and justifies, in your words, "for the government to control people and their lives."

I don't think I have used the word soul once on this thread until this sentence. Also who says suffering counts for nothing for me? I would like to reduce people's suffering but the fact that someone possibly might suffer in the future if you let them live does not justify killing them.
