> The market agrees that the near term is poor, but is holding up the stock

WOW! If this is considered to be "holding up" the stock, then what would happen if the market decides to bring the stock down!

If anyone on February 6th after Cisco reports says "Gee... I am shocked! How could they have missed their earning, revenue, and how could the short term outlook is so negative ....etc. etc.", that person

a) must have either been on drugs for the past 4 months
b) or ignorant of what is going on
c) OR a selef-serving charlatan (aka analyst) who intends to buy the stock cheap by downgrading it.

Most likely it will be #c above.

Whatever happens on Monday and Tuesday, I am most certain nasdaq (along with Cisco) will be up on Wednesday (Feb 7th).

it's all tied together.

consumers have had a negative savings rate and were spending beyond their means.

csco customers are loaded with debt and many don't even have profit ebitda.

csco customers aren't going to be selling their products to debt loaded consumers at the rate they hoped.

csco customers will have trouble making debt payments.

csco will suffer.

csco's valuation is insane.

csco's will trade down to the low teens over the next few years.

LU all over again.

it started with a slide in the stock, now it's "lack of visibility" over the next year it will be "lack of credibility"

Mucho: I find it strange that the same market with the same cronnies has suddenly developed the skill sets to predict the earnings for the next six months. These so called experts were unable to call the dot.com bust, the drop in GDP and the like.

Every Q, we are kept in suspense regarding earnings. Now of a sudden they have this capacity for distant vision.

Give us a break.
