<Don't you wish AMD could make any processor with more than 256K of cache? But hey, I guess if AMD can't make it, no one really needs it, right?>

I saw some astounding SPEC numbers from early silicon 1MB Mustang in September. There is no problem whatsoever to build them. After seeing P4 benchmarks, AMD correctly concluded that T-bird is plenty enough to take care of P4 for the time being and shifted to release the mobile implementations of the same core first.

So if by any wild chance P4 gets ahead of the Athlon in the performance race, M-tang is there and ready to slam the door on it.

I hope I didn't ruin your dinner.

Regards,

Kap

No, not at all. But it may be that, for both Intel and for AMD, the big increase in memory bus bandwidth that comes from DDR will make large cache processors less important for dual processor systems. I think quad processor systems will still benefit from larger caches, whether AMD makes them or not, and whether those caches are on the chipset or the CPU.
