Bland had just written in response to an earlier post:

"The first step in solving any dynamic problem, generally, is to try to contain it. To bring it within manageable bounds. To stop it from getting worse while you work on it."

He then decided against pursuing this line of thought, because it opens too large of a subject that needs too much detail. But you have stated the basic idea pretty succinctly. It cannot be fixed until it is somehow contained. It cannot be contained if you simply add fuel to the fire.

I do not believe the problem in our inner cities is like the middle East- unless we make it that way by believing it is. We certainly could make it as intractable by refusing to try to solve it.

Read the above citation- I am sure in a country as big as ours, we can at LEAST give these children an adequate education. Not an equal education- people would fight too hard against giving them that, and people have fought- all the way to the Supreme Court against giving them that, but I think, at a minimum, the greedy and self interested people of the US could add a little enlightenment to the mix, and furnish to our inner city children, an education that might actually educate them. It truly is ironic to make children in substandard schools say a pledge of alegiance about one counrty under God with liberty and justice for all- when there are really two countries, and no justice. One for Americans who will get an education, and one for those who will not.
