Harry re: I had heard of the rationing on the news. It is unfortunate you got caught up in it, but I don't think you can blame Whitman for doing what she had to do to conserve water.

Oh, I'm not blaming Whitman, but I think it was kind of silly putting the State of NJ on water emergency when the problem was the Delaware River. At the height of it the water level was never more than 10' below grade where I live.

You also must have sandy or rocky soil which doesn't hold water well, because trees with their deep roots can survive longer than most plants.

Yes, I have sandy soil for the top 4 feet. The trees that got hit were poplars -- about 20 years old, 70' tall, 2' thick. Good morning and afternoon shade trees, but roots that follow the surface.

All of my other trees did fine -- even the Willows which need lots of water but put down deep roots.

Harry,

I live in a well insulated house in Colorado. I drive about 6,000 miles a year. I fly about 100,000 miles a year.

I've designed some of the leading microprocessors in the world. How about you?

That kind of irritated me 'cause it implied that I was lying.

Which causes me to think about what the definition of is is.

Watson,

It was 1,000 sq. ft. and we kept it at 70 on gas heat. January, 1999 the heating bill was $300. Typical winter heating
bills were $150-200, which is pretty ridiculous, because most winter days it gets over 60 degrees.

The weatherstripping was easily fixable, but I wasn't inclined to add insulation on a rental.

Sensible energy use in California would make everybody's lives there more comfortable.

Scumbria
