In the mid-80's, two women near and dear to me (both life-long Republicans) started voting against all anti-abortion Republican legislative candidates. It was not their ONLY issue but it became their #1 issue. By the 90's, the elder returned to the fold, believing that the issue is actually settled and the hard-core on either side are just milking it for money and publicity. The other has not voted for a Republican running for any office in almost a decade.
