With respect to Affirmative Action, I am sure that the people in favor of it do NOT believe that people who benefit from it have less merit than the others. They believe that the deck is stacked against minorities, and this is simply a way of levelling the playing field. They believe that throughout history, white males, especially ones from privileged backgrounds, or members of the "old boys" network, have advanced disproportionately to the merit of the individual, in some cases regardless of whether the individual white male actually had merit. Anyway, you and I decided a long time ago that you are a Lumper and I am a Splitter, so here we are again. -g-
