This post reminds me of a thought I've had that there will be new discoveries (scientific) related to gold in the next few years. Everyone talks about gold as if it were river rock or something that is easily found and is no different than any other material except its real shiny and looks good when you wear it.

The fact is that gold has many important and unique material properties which make it critical in the electronics industry already. Gold plating on connector pins, printed circuits, etc is there for a reason - because there is no substitute for its material properties.

The catalyst news in interesting. Maybe we find out gold is the key to making fuel cells work more efficiently, I don't know what the discovery will be, only that I have a feeling that there will be one or more significant technical uses for the metal found in the near future.

I'm already loaded on the mining companies here, but I'm going to buy today's dip on some bullion and hang on to some of it too.
