I think, I hope, that it is reasonable to still believe in the basic goodness of most people. Had something more to say, but feeling rather at a loss of nice words right now. It isn't worth it to engage such attacks. Nothing is accomplished, and energy that could be well spent elsewhere is lost.

I have never before witnessed men so filled with hatred and resentment.
Well, it's been enlightening for someone who honestly believed in the basic NICENESS of people.
Color me very naive (pink?) and a very deep blue for sad.

Rambi, some people are not nice. Many other people are less likely to be nice when they get worked up on a controversial issue, and also less likely to be nice when they can't actually see or even here the person they are communicating with. Some people feel less need to control themeselves in the medium unfortunately.

Tim

Rambi, I think you may have been somewhat limited in your SI readings, not that that's a bad thing. Here's a bit I posted to YYB privately this morning:

A little advise on the unmoderated " Pro Choice Action Team ". You'll probably want to get rid of the "un" fairly soon, abortion warriors are pretty rampant on SI. And most of them are nowhere near as polite as twfowler, the xxxxx style is much more common.

No offense to Tim, that part was meant as a genuine compliment. He's been unfailingly polite, as others have noted. As for the others, I guess it's best to let that thread die quietly, or noisily, or whatever befits the guys who camped out there, I just hope YYB isn't being inundated privately as well as publicly. It'll be interesting to see how SI deals in Bob's absence.

-Win.

SI is all about provocation rather than solutions. What surprises me most about the abortion dilemma is abortion is the first politically correct term. There was no such thing as an induced abortion, abort always meant spontaneous. To use phrases and words that have double meanings is dishonest.

If it was simply called legalized infanticide I would accept that as honest because that is exactly what it is. I think in most cases it is wrong but a woman in a free society has the right to be wrong. She does not and society does not have the right to make that imposition on me, either in the way of funding or tolerance. You cannot impose your morals on me and I can't judge you with mine. And either way I categorically reject nouveau speak and this deliberate dishonesty of language.
