6.6% Rate Of Increase In Hourly Compensation

Got Stagflation

8:41 (Dow Jones) A 6.6% rate of increase in hourly compensation was far greater than the 2.4% rate of productivity growth. That is why unit labor costs - the difference between compensation and productivity - rose at a rapid 4.1% rate. (JM)

8:40 (Dow Jones) Though productivity grew at a higher than expected rate in the fourth quarter, the solid rise in unit labor costs could be worrisome for inflation hawks, and is stunting stock-related gains in the bond market. The slight dip in productivity and the rise in unit labor costs had already been seen given the dip in Q4 GDP. (SV)
