teevee,

'to transform Canadians from hewers of wood'
He still needs someone to clear the land for the golf courses and produce spare parts for the canoes which may need to be retrofitted to maintain our NATO commitments :0)

'the next two to five years should be good ones as major capital is invested in these areas'
I agree that there are many good choices to be had in old economy niches. I'm mainly in O&G, Drillers and pipelines now. I expect to continue taking some ST profits though over the next weeks. I started looking at steel wrt O&G eg: MVK and noticed your post on the driller thread.

'it will take at least another 3 months or so for capital to move out of the high tech sector'
Due to the changing (increasing) energy requirements of our society I don't see NG or OIL falling off the map in the near future.
I figure to go shopping in the summer with O&G profits from the spring for more of the same and maybe by then there should be some good tech bargains also for long term

regards
Kastel

Driving this morning i hear on the radio a piece about how the feds are going to push 'high-speed internet connection' to everybody in the country ... just spent ten minutes looking for an article on that on the net, can't find one but CBC wouldn't lie to us, would they -g- ..... have you seen this - courts.gov.bc.ca ... first judge with a personal page, looks informative, a neighbour here has great respect for this guy

Talking in a bar last night with a guy going back into business as a public works contractor, water and sewer etc, he was saying the feds promised some truly fantastic figure [65 billions? over ten years] as matching funds for municipal infrastructure ... haven't seen that in writing either.

Old economy, yes it'll be with us for a while eh ... right now i don't have those few su.to that i trade back and forth all the time, snoozing when it spiked down to my price, that was a mistake looks like ... copper gets used a lot in infrastructure eh, and they say there's not the looming overhang of supply on it that there was ... with oil and gas, i wonder how long they can keep going before taking a little rest ... lots of people sitting on major profits in them lately

'New' economy, 'old' economy - the 'new' is not so new any more really, and the 'old' is always renewing itself, always changing ... the internet for instance is getting near old enough to vote, pretty near through the pubescent stage with the whacko fashions, and still going strong ... i bet overall commerce on it is up year over year, and will be again next year ... and look - you and i are still here -g-

teevee, there is one less Winspearian, .Trev has passed away - Message 15330452

Interesting wmchen's piece on roads in the north eh ... inevitable eventually, and they will change some economics of deposits there.

Btw, in grinding on about how technology is an integral part of all sectors i had no intention of negating your point here at all, it is a good one imho, there most certainly are distinct sectors and the rotation between them has been going on for some time ..... the dot.bombs have been dead for some time now, a lot of money lost by some, gained by others, but overall in tech there was considerable net wealth produced i should think, and the process continues - there will be tech winners continually as long as the species survives ... but the sectors perceived as 'old' do seem to be safer and surer bets, undervalued as they are ... i know you don't like golds, but they are where i come from, and i can't help but be attracted at these prices especially when they have nearterm exploration upside ... got to learn more about the oilpatch though, i dabble in it but not well .... cheers
