Kastel, good to see you here ... what are your top picks in the oilpatch, and why? ... same question to teevee as well, you both know a thing or two on this ..... what do you think of this for a proposition -

Resource exploration and development is largely a technology-oriented 'new economy' play in these years because -

1. technology has changed the economics of finding and producing resources, made them cheaper and more efficient ... things like IP and fancy fly-over stuff in exploration, continually-tweaked systems like Suncor has going in the oilsands and with which they are cutting their costs dramatically ... i know those little handheld GPS gizmos have radically cut cruising costs for foresters, you don't have to pay somebody to drag a tape through the bush anymore, you stroll around and when you want to know where you are you ask the gizmo, push this little button, it tells you to within one metre ... this is a major savings, and only one example.

2. technology has increased demand for selected resources - computers and their paraphernalia take a lot of electricity which consumes natgas, people flipping stocks on them use the profits to buy SUVs with mufflers which take half an ounce of palladium/platinum each, houses are more and more wired which takes copper, etc.

No big walls between the sectors imho ... and in a real way, they're all tech plays.
