There's a lot of misinformation out there floating around. It's like fingernails down a blackboard when someone says FO components are commodity items. If they were, JDSU wouldn't be getting 60 to 80% margins. Nor would SDLI have fetched the multi-billion price-tag it did.

But I'm preaching to the choir. . . :)
