Breakfast is perhaps the easiest of all the meals. The way it was explained to us was that even though carbohydrates break down into sugar, and we have been taught that this is a bad thing for our bodies, and rightly so. Complex carb's are different. Complex carb's are the whole unproccessed complete grains. Such as whole wheat and whole grain rice etc.. The body can't break complex carb's down as easy and so because it takes longer they don't get turned into sugar and wasted empty calories.
So now that we know that, whole wheat bagels or bread with some low sugar preserves or non-fat cottage cheese spread on it works well. I have given the non fat cream cheese a chance and it really isn't worth the effort.
Whole grain cereals that have a total fat content of 1g or less is good too, of course with skim milk.
We really had to get used to the new flavor of the foods, but it only took a few days and then it was okay.
