I thought that it is generally understood that large fiscal deficits are inflationary, which require Fed action (usually higher interest rates) to control inflation. Why is it hard to imagine that large Federal surpluses are deflationary, requiring Fed action against the bias for deflation?
Greenspan is in favor of a large tax cut, (I believe)because he understands that deflation is much more socially destablizing than even inflation.

Remember the logic you apply can also be applied to Bill CLinton's enormous tax increases on the poor. It didn't bother Bill Gates when the gas tax was increased. However that was a huge tax increase on the poor and working class. The same goes for the cigarette tax which discriminates against the poor. During the CLinton years the rich got richer and the poor got poorer with more money going from those who could least afford it to Washington.
The IRS went after a working waitress who earned 10k a year and wanted to fine her 3k for claiming 5 % tips instead of 10% but Mr Rich gets forgiven. The Clinton years were an excess of contributions to trial lawyers and the left wing elite. The only time I heard about the homeless was in the last month leading up to the election

<<If you are representative of the conservatives in this country, well, all I can say is that it's easy to understand why 52% of the public voted the other way.>>

And 51% of the vote that counts, the Electorial College voted for ....... President Bush.

<<And none of this even accounts for the biggest tax boondoggle of all - the elimination of the estate tax, even for estates over $20 Million (which, incidentally, is all but designed to ensure that Dubya himself saves millions in taxes when his parents pass to that great country club in the sky -- no conflict of interest there . . . . LOL).>>

LOL all you want, it cost me $157k in taxes to inherit my family farm which was deeded to my family by presidents Polk and Taylor. Worded to my great grandfather and all his heirs. And all his heirs and I still got nailed. The farm makes about $25k a year.
