We had a former Senator from WA who reminds me of Cheney

Slade Gorton. I have very fond memories of him and the Salvage Rider. Used to really upset me, that one, but then I decided that if Washington State wanted to elect somebody up for clearcutting the little remaining old growth, by whatever hook and crook needed, well, it was their backyard, not mind.

I was certainly glad to see him go down, though. Very close race. But with W installing a Watt protege at Interior, Gorton's demise is definitely a very minor consolation.

-Win.

Conservation should be encouraged and so should solar energy.

Every scientist will attest that ALL power is solar power. The problem is that oil and gas are ancient solar power collected though a relatively inefficient mechanism (photosynthesis). Electric power from photovoltaics or even conventional mechanical conversion could produce some part of our needs. The real answer will be when we convert the solar power into a fuel that we can use and recycle.

There is nothing wrong per se with burning gasoline. The problem is that the carbon is not recycled and it is burned inefficiently producing toxic byproducts. Hydrogen has a lot of potential, IMO, but we have an infrastructure that supports oil and gas. Scientists have gotten anaerobic bacteria to produce hydrogen and methane. I'm thinking of a system where a combination of technologies would be implemented that use existing infrastructure. This would have to be the equivalent of the space program. There doesn't seem to be the will to do it though.
