All is well, Chip. Thanks.

Don't see much about pork and poultry, but the Johnnes thing is suspected to be across a wide range, including pork. It's carried by rabbits, and like scrapie in sheep and goats, it's been around for a long, long time.

I really doubt you'll see much of a scare on the BSE front, let alone an outbreak of BSE in the states. Seriously.

wrt BSE prion transfer into milk, my understanding is that its never been seen. Keep in mind that the prions enter the digestive tract first and move into the spinal fluid over time (14 months for scrapie prions), then on to the brain tissue where they cause degenerative changes like Alzheimers. There they stay unitl the only known transfer occurs (at least in sheep), other than consumption of meat. That is through placental contact after birth from mom to offspring.

I'm not being all that clear. Sorry. Answer is, I've never heard of prion transfer from milk to humans, but I do know there is a question about gelatins in all kinds of baked goods which might be a tranfer mechanism. Geez, I'm really having trouble here memory wise and communication wise.

I'll try again, maybe tomorrow. :)
