Render unto Caeser, Caeser's due. Generally considered to mean pay your taxes. Maybe you interpret it differently?

That doesn't mean that any level of tax is just and that we should never oppose tax increases or support tax cuts.

combjelly,

Render unto Caeser, Caeser's due. Generally considered to mean pay your taxes. Maybe you interpret it differently?

I am not sure if this is an endorsement of the government run welfare state. It may be, since before it's collapse, Rome was probably the closest to welfare state that humanity reached anytime before 20th century.

Anyway, I am not sure if it is a good idea to replace individual acts of charity with a faceless industrial strength welfare machine that takes the charity money under thread of force from people and distributes it in a manner inconsistent with "donor's" intentions.
