This is crazy!
The two different portfolios did not perform exactly the same!
A portfolio is not 1 stock. This contest calculates the percent gain you made over your initial investment, whatever that was. That initial investment, whatever it was is your "portfolio" here.

I understood the contest to be based on the total percent return of the portfolio and not based on the amount of money the 100 shares of five stocks cost. I believe the SI portfolio tracker calculates this percentage correctly.

I totally agree with you. There should have been an equal amount of MONEY invested per stock not an equal amount of shares. Either that or average the percentage gain for all stocks. The way it is now, the price of the stock determines the weighting in that stock.
