the opportunities lost
The U.S. was on track to pay it's debts, and as fast as taxes could be cut at that time some big resources would have become available. All while the population was at unprecidented prosperity.

Such situations occur only a few times for a civilization. This is the time when those civilizations achieve on a truley monumental scale. The Egyptian pyramids, Ankor Watt, the Parthenon, or the Temple of the Sun. These are past achievements. Whether the American epic achievement would have been in art, or science, or world conquest I don't know. We will never know. We will now strive for mediocrity in the model of our new king, Junior George.
