Scumbria, <I spent a week working in England last summer when petrol was completely unavailable. It was amazing how quickly management there adjusted to the idea of telecommuting.>

So all we need to do here in America is wait until gas become unavailable (i.e. $2/gal and above), and companies will quickly adjust to the idea of telecommuting.

The only problem is that if gas ever became that expensive, the American public will make a tremendous uproar, and both Republican and Democratic politicians will be pressured to find oil at any cost (e.g. drill the ANWR, invade the Middle East, etc.).

By the way, gas in Korea is around $4/gal, and still the streets of Seoul are a nightmare, like twice the traffic of Silicon Valley. Oh, and get this: During Korean Thanksgiving, everyone leaves Seoul and goes out to the countryside to visit family. The problem is that everyone then comes back to Seoul at the same time. A trip that normally takes four hours took twelve hours due to all the traffic.
