I found the article about Intel losing HP's PA_RISC foundry business to IBM very interesting. A lot of good SOI insight. It appears that Intel is down-playing SOI, not for technological reasons, but due to volume production limitations that they would experience:

"Who's going to make 100 million SOI wafers?" he said. "Ultimately it's a business decision."
