HJ my wife and I actually once stayed in a basement room in a hotel in London for two nights, in the "mews" as they called it. On our departing day we learned that mews means horse stalls !! Not sure if horses were ever actually kept down there.

But a senior US textiles trade negotiator was also staying down there too, so it couldn't have been that bad!

great rate, and a 10 min walk from Buckingham palace!
