That is a link to a poem posted by shalom the message of which illuminates, I believe, something fundamental about the attitudes toward human suffering of certain of those whose world-view is very different from mine.

EDIT: it seems to be the link to my reply to shalom's post, actually.

Reading that link left me reeling. This post horrifies me so very much more than all the chopped up fetus pictures pro-lifers like to confront us with. Sentient beings sold by people they love and trust, to be tortured and raped on an ongoing basis. Are morals and sensitivity and empathy luxuries? It's hard to believe that these girls who know the dirty score, would choose to bring a daughter into the world if they knew her fate was the same. Certainly it would seem the greater sin than abortion. What could ever happen to these young victims to make their lives even net zero, much less worth what they've been through? It frightens me that some of their customers are American, and may "seem normal" in everyday life. Their justification about the age of consent and other jobs being more demeaning are ludicrous. What kind of mind generates these justifications? These monsters live amongst us. I "knew: these things happen, but don't dwell upon it. My problems seem so trivial in comparison. I am truly reeling from this horror made so real in my awareness. At this moment I can't find respite from the images.

<< ...men throughout Asia are turning toward younger and younger children, partly because they are deemed less likely to be infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. >>

And yet, where are the screams against child prostitution by the pious? It's strange how silent the Pro Life voices get, when it comes to child abuse or child prostitution. I guess these causes would interfer with their spiritual war against a woman's sexual and reproductive freedoms.
