>Ronald and Nancy paid taxes on their gifts - most of which was the value of borrowed dresses for Nancy.< A million dollars worth of clothes and shoes? That's enough to make Imelda Marcos blush. And it looks from the story that the decision to pay taxes may have been prompted by an IRS examination.

And of course that doesn't excuse the Clinton's behavior, from taking stuff that was intended for the White House, to the Rich pardon. The point is that the world, and certainly the world of politics, isn't as black and white as you and folks like Tommy the Swami would like it to be.

RE: The Reagan's paid taxes on Nancy's gifts.......

Please post the link that says they paid taxes.....the Times article simply says she drew the
attention of the IRS....it didn't say she paid. And btw, maybe you can provide some details on
house the Reagans built with friends money and tell us if he paid taxes on the $2 mil+ he got for
a few 20 min. speeches in Japan. And while you at it, please supply some details into the
the gift's Bush Sr. might have gotten when the Saudi's sent a specially customized 747 (just for
him) over to take him to Saudi Arabia to be thanked for the Gulf War...
