lol. Yo, Ammo, are you sticking your hairless chest out while you strut? Have you been under the tanning lights lately?

hehe. Just trying to help keep the ego a bit in check.

Running is much like swimming in what you describe. Especially long distance runners for the lonliness. But sprinters and hurdlers and all can't afford to lose a single bit of edge by not having worked out enough, or by not being up to snuff physically, from drugs or alcohol... or lack of rest, etc.

it's compacted into such a short span of time. And is at that moment. In football, there's the next play. In baseball, the next at bat.

<<As you know, it's a grueling sport and it's year round. And an oddly lonely one when you think that most of the hours are spent doing mile after mile of laps. >>

That it is. I'd go nuts just swimming laps.

It's a sport that requires access to a pool which not everyone has. During the school year my cousins and girl friend could use the school pool and in the summer they belonged to country clubs that had teams. Of course now we have two Ys and some smaller clubs with pools.

One break where the school had shut down and the country club hadn't started it's outdoor program, my cousin ran laps at the track to keep his legs up. That killed his time for a while as it shortened his leg muscles.

This swimming thing. When I was 17 my parents went to Florida for 6 weeks. I was staying home alone and my cousin needed an early ride to a important swimming meet the next day so I stayed in the extra bed at my aunt and uncles house to cage a free breakfast before driving my cousin.

Talk about not sleeping... he kept swimming laps all night. Arms flailing feet kicking. So mentally focused. I thought he'd be worn out but he did fine. Remember those bear shaped bottles of honey? He chugged one about 1/2 hour before the meet.
