Hmmm, I'll give you a different answer than you asked for.

I don't think SCM is as important as it seems at this juncture - so no, in real terms I don't think arba will match I2's demand planning expertise, but I see SCM as just one of many areas in the demand/supply chain all of which are being revamped by misc. b2b companies.

Ariba knows the whole chain is available to sell into, which is why they bought agile... why compete with I2 in their core competancy?

IMO the landscape for internet enabled enterprise software is wide open just like it was in 1993 when client/server came along and Sap and Oracle emerged. No company produces an enterprise enabled ERP/supply chain product which really gets in there and modernizes the old business process we did in ERP - so that is the opportunity.

If I had to guess at who will take the internet enabled enterprise I would say the contenders right now are i2 and arba and there is definitely room for both companies so just buy the cheaper one.
