I believe that CLS signed a $300M contract with JDSU for contract manufacturing. I don't remember the length of the contract and its percentage effect on revenues for CLS. I do remember CLS mentioning something about their aggressive movement into contract manufacturing for optics component companies.

jman is right: celestica has been considered the fiber play out of that group, for quite a while. I just think flex has better numbers, and I liked management better. Some of the boys at Montgomery seem to like slr best, because it is cheapest, but they haven't executed well compared to flex.

It is true JDSU outsources to Celestica. Also believe NT sold off a unit to SLR and did a supply agreement.

The EMSs may want to get into optical for longer term growth objectives.

It seems that outsourcing is the trend among the tech companies like SUNW, CSCO, HWP, MOT, Ericson and on and on. The reason is simply that expanding inhouse means tying up capital...and the problem of not being able to supply competitors with any overcapacity.

CLS's earnings were just amazing! It is probably the blue chip of the bunch and PE going forward is not bad and the company is comfortable with current guidance..my guess is they are being conservative.

Slowdowns are great for this industry.

BTW---I have been saying that we will see the same thing happen with optical component makers at some point. A Cisco, Cien, scmr have no reason to build their own components for example.
That is why I feel the components companies like JDSU, GLW etc.. will only grow---in bad and good times just like the EMSs. Should happen soon,IMHO.
