AMD (as I'm sure you know) is going to start out using SOI in 0.13u for the Hammer family only. I think the T-bred on 0.13u with low k and a 512 Kb cache will be very competitive with anything Intel has to offer, and will probably be AMD's volume offering thoughout 2002. So, the way I see it, AMD has two years to get SOI into high enough volume to support all their product lines. Certainly, they will shift mobile T-bred to SOI before volume desktop. I wouldn't even be surprised if we find out that the first generation Clawhammer does not end up using SOI.

Actually, I'm not aware of AMD's plan regarding SOI but I hope they do something along the lines of what you suggest.

Are you sure that Thoroughbred and Appaloosa won't be on SOI? What are you basing this on? The only comment I remember is from the November Analyst Conference. And it was extremely vague, bordering on completely useless.

Oh, and what's going to happen with Fab25? Will it be upgraded anytime soon?
