Albert: Would you think with 100% certainty that there would be no transition problems for Intel? Keep in mind that when amd bet their "farm" amd was a risky venture and priced as such. Intel on another hand is not considered as risky as amd and hence can not afford bets

Certainly, each process transition has inherent risks, but I don't see any great problems for Intel. They have two completely seperate .13mu processes - with a third in development (those being .13mu Al, .13mu Cu and .13mu Cu / SOI, respectively). Intel can afford these costs. At this point, it is certainly worth it for them to minimize the risk of incorporating radically new elements (SOI and low K, mainly).
