4:42PM ConAgra Foods warns (CAG) by Barbara C. Costanza
ConAgra Foods (CAG) said its lowering its earnings outlook for the second half of 2001 due to higher energy costs and a slowing economy. The company expects third-quarter earnings of 18 cents to 20 cents a share, while analysts currently expect a profit of 44 cents a share. Fourth-quarter earnings are expected to be between 39 cents and 41 cents a share, while analysts currently expect a profit of 53 cents a share. Analysts currently expect full-year earnings of $1.85 a share. Full-year earnings will be closer to $1.46 to $1.50 a share, according to the company.


4:36PM Coldwater Creek warns (CWTR) by Barbara C. Costanza
Coldwater Creek (CWTR) shares traded as low as $30 in after-market trading on news the company expects fourth-quarter earnings to be 4 cents to 7 cents a share, while analysts currently expect a profit of 66 cents a share. In the year-ago period, the company earned 56 cents a share. Significant sales shortfalls in full-price merchandise resulted in higher selling and marketing expenses and lower gross margins due to significantly increased promotional activities. Sales will be about $112 million to $117 million for the fourth quarter. The company expects to report fourth-quarter earnings on April 11. Shares closed down $2.81 to $35.31.
