Thanks. But compared to many, I wasn't much of a disadvantaged youth at the bottom of the heap. I did have a harder road to hoe than average, but I'm not from a totally intellectually, emotionally and financially impoverished family. It is that really BIG segment of our society that is growing. And, it is unlikely that it will get smaller on its own.

I think there are a broad spectrum of people who could benefit from such a program. I can guarantee that there would be inefficiencies. You have to believe that in the long run it pays off anyway despite these inefficiencies. However, I'm not averse to tracking the success. To the contrary, I think it is essential.

I'm saddened that we, as a country, don't seem to want to try very hard to fix this problem. Many people think we DID try and failed. The Great Society was by most measures a total failure. This is where the government sweeps in and throws around things that sound good at a large scale with no pilot programs. I think many people assume that is what I'm proposing.

I'm sympathetic to the people who are skeptical. This is an area replete with examples of failure. What distresses me is that so many people seem to just shrug and say, "Gee, that's too bad. It's hopeless." That becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

BTW, what happened to those thousand points of light we heard so much about 12 years ago?
