Well we agree on the flat tax. Of course it would be based on all earnings above some minimum say 20K, that would allow the poorest to do a little better

Dear Jeff: IMHO the VERY BEST tax would be a V.A.T. (value added tax which is basically a fancy sales tax). This would cause EVERYONE who buys anything to contribute. I have just forgotten the numbers but I have read there is a tremendous amount of UNDERREPORTING of income. This would eliminate that. I am sure some method could be devised to pay back to poorer people some portion of their VAT. JDN

Better yet!! Don't tax on income or capital gains. Tax only when the money is spent. The level of taxes should be put forward by political parties and whoever quotes the least should be elected to power.
All individuals rich and poor should be paid fixed dollars to be able purchase food items only and this will serve as social safety net. The whole system this way will be fair. Any takers..
