Chris: I read Drudge daily for the same reasons you do. He's entertaining, he links to interesting stories, and he occasionally gives us the first whiff of a big story.

He runs an Internet tabloid service, and he's achieved some degree of success.

However, Drudge is a rumor-monger. (And I don't necessarily use the term in a completely negative way.) He reports scuttlebutt, hearsay and half-truths.

Those who tap into his stories and assign legitimacy to them are probably as much to blame. Too often, those seeking to have their right-wing views reinforced rely on these reports of scuttlebutt, hearsay and half-truths as confirmation.

In the case of the non-trashing of Air Force 1, no one challenged the Repub attack dogs who leaked this story, and which the president of the United States now says is false.

So in this case we can add the non-trashing of AF1 to the Blumenthal side of the ledger.
