See no reason for much more upside until they get some decent earnings visibility.

Totally disagree. AMAT had visibility in earnings and the stock went up big today.

Everyone knows about the visibility in telco spending...so this has been factored in to the stock...especially when it is sitting at 52 week lows.

Final factor is that the way JDSU ran up into the close of trading indicates to me that there was not a lot of shares available to sell....Think about it, if you rode the stock down to 38, why would you part with the stock now. That caused a surge into the close...supply and demand issue. To me this was just an indicator or test for the stock and it passed with flying colors, IMHO.

Normally such additions to the S and P result in a selloff just before the close as traders unload what they picked up earlier or others want to short it for the eventual decline. My feeling is that more shorted it in this case expecting a decline tomorrow. In addition, mutual funds would have wanted to sell into the change in the S and P news...but the volume of sellers was not large enough.

IMHO, even if it drops in the AM, it should make big gains by day end as the short sell trades near the close today.. will not work out...and we see then covering tomorrow.

If Cisco and AMAT can start moving up, I am pretty confident that JDSU is in pretty good shape.

My assumption is that the market is about to move upward and I have a strong feeling it will.

Bodie,

Obviously the musings of this author were incorrect. JDSU soared into the close and after the close... and that reversal came on less than favorable news. As to earnings visibility... the CC gave guidance, and by the time you or I are privy to a more "visible" future, we will be buying our shares from the folks that were savvy enough to buy it down here. Until proven otherwise, JDSU has good support at the 37 level. It's better to buy it at this level, than to chase it later. Stop loss at slightly under 37.
