Re: How do you feel about the DELL denial of layoffs only a week ago? hard to explain, in my book.

I didn't see denial, I saw a refusal to speculate on rumor.
Management must be very careful and secretive about layoffs for the safety of other employees and the security and integrity of their IT infrastructure. It should be a surprise where the employee is notified and can pack their personal belongings under supervision before being walked.

When folks have a pretty good idea that their going to be laid off within a week, it only takes one out of 1700 to do a lot of damage before he/she is walked. This can span the gamut from planting viruses and stealing all kinds of data to going postal.

Besides, I heard Dell did not handle it poorly. They set up support centers and gave good severance packages.
