Greg, you don't normally take the easy way out. If people that support a particular position don't see the irony in their inconsistent actions, then their theory (whether superior or not) isn't very compelling. It starts to sound of hypocrisy. If doctors talked about antibiotics and surgery but personally used shaman (or is that sha-people, I get confused!) then you'd have to wonder what it was in their theory that wasn't compelling -- these are the EXPERTS in the theory and they don't use it.

A "right to life" is a stronger philosophical argument, IMO. But then I believe in mercy killing. I used the example of finding a badly wounded fellow on a battlefield.

Since you quoted me, you could have used the whole context. How do you feel about mercy killing? Would you let the soldier cry out in agony for 20 very long minutes, or would you end it? I said I'd end it.
