Because an alcoholic can successfully hide his/her drinking for years from most everyone except maybe other alcoholics. <<<<<<

You can say that, but is that your real reason. GW gave us his word, his friends and family have said so. Even the reporters covering him say so. In absence of a any evidence to the contrary, why the distrust? I will grant you, you got hurt. Probably what hurt the most was having all of your friends except the secretary not believe you. Why are you doing unto others, when you hated it when it was done to you? If you really hate it when we accuse Bill, why are you so quick to accuse GW?

Harry,

I do not believe there is any analogy to what happened to me and Bush's addiction. I did nothing wrong; yet it was my word against someone else's. Bush did drink to excess and did DUI.....big difference in my estimation.

Now, he says he has been sober for 15 years. I am not accusing him of lying. What I was saying is that people when properly motivated can deceive their family and friends. An addiction can be that proper motivation.

So what I was suggesting is that that issue might have been something the American voters should have been able to consider in an appropriate forum when making their decision for whom to vote. However, when it did come up, the Reps were quick to accuse the Dems of malicious behavior, causing the issue to get clouded very quickly.
