Why haven't mining companies offered more gold or silver convertible bonds like Freeport McMoran or Sunshine used to do. I'm sure precious metals investors would love a marketable exchange traded security, backed by gold, which pays a small amount of interest. Instead of hedging, miners could effectively do the same thing by offering securities that mature every year - selling forward directly to investors using a gold convertible bond.

Can anyone recommend a reliable source from which to buy physical gold? I have developed a desire to hold real gold for some reason. I live in a small town and there are no gold dealers. Is there a safe internet place to price and or purchase K-rands, Mapleleafs etc?
As an aside, I have been investing for 12 years or so and have never had any desire whatsoever to hold the precious yellow, but I'm feeling the need lately and find that interesting in and of itself. I am something of an everyman and if I have developed that particular craving I suspect that I am not alone.
