James McGowan...

What happened to the idea that tax should be collected to pay for needed, justifiable programs rather than just because some poor slob outside of DC has some money that the government hasn't stolen yet?

I start with the radical assumption that the government needs funds to operate--I realize that the vast majority on this thread believe that it should run on vapors (with the exception of funding SDI boondoggles that don't work, but THAT'S okay....)--and that if you eliminate the "death tax" that other folks (read: middle-class) are going to have to make up the difference. And I'd rather tax the heirs of mega-rich folks who haven't done anything to earn it, rather than tax the REAL poor slob who is working for $15 bucks an hour.

"So what government department do you work in?
If you don't work for the government, you undoubtedly suck at one of the the federal tits."

What possible difference does it make where I work?

What is wrong with you people? Anybody who doesn't believe in "the politics of ME" as embodied by the GOP is automatically either working for the government or on welfare? Guess what, James, I own a business with 15 employees, I don't get a dime from the federal government, I pay more in taxes every year than 98% of the people in this Country make in a year, and I agree with pretty much everything ecommerceman is saying.
