There is always a problem with morality imposed from an outside source. It doesn't have to make any sense. And, when we consider most religions were formed when there was not over-population (just the opposite in fact), then we can see why religions are such a problem. To a non-technological society every sperm is sacred- since sperm (with a little help from an egg) grow up to work the fields. This fertility cultishness (found in all primitive religions- and all our religions on earth are fairly primitive) is obviously beneficial to non-technological people with survival rates lower than ours, and a need for manual labor higher than ours.

I find it incomprehensible that otherwise honest and moral people can have such an irrational response to sensible birth control.

No offense intended, but in my eyes, I question the "morality" of people who are well educated, and in specific instances have positions of power, such as many of the politicians and religious authorities in the third world, (and even in the first), who in spite of clear evidence to the contrary, (of their premises), they continue to "hold on to antiquated views..." perhaps out of "tradition" or for fear of unwanted or unexpected reactions... For example even their refusal to consider a wider sex education and use of contraceptives, I find such behavior to be completely irrational, (and lacking any sort of morality).

Bottom line, their stances in reaffirming the fallacies of their beliefs, (again, given current evidence), perpetuate the on-going situation of overpopulation and lowering of the quality of life.

just my opinion
