Tim Re..I think drunk driving laws should be pretty strict, esp. for repeat offenders, but I'm not so sure the .08 BAC laws are a good idea. I think at .08 there is some impairment but most drunk driving accidents are caused by drivers with a lot more alcohol then that.<<<<<<

I agree fully with that in that I feel .1 is restrictive enough. I would also like to say that the drinking age , for beer any way, should be lowered to 18. To expect the young adults to wait till they are 21 is ridiculous. The police can't stop beer any more than they can stop drugs. And to drive the teenagers from bars into private parties complete with drugs and bedrooms, has just made drugs and sex more prevalent. You can't stop teenagers from getting into mischief and from having fun. We should make it easier to have fun in the open, and quit stigmatizing them as drunkards for having a drink before they are 21. At least in a bar, kids can meet people of the opposite sex and decide whether they like each other before they are within 10 ft of a bedroom. There the peer pressure isn't so great.

tw... I think drunk driving laws should be very strict. I do, however, believe that a person is capable of having a few drinks and driving without being a hazard to others on the road. I think that there should be a grading of alcohol levels starting a 0 up to 2+. The lower the BAC the lower the penalty and vice versa. High levels should require mandatory jail time, fines and suspension. Property damage and injury should require even higher penalties.

Serious offenders and multiple offenders will continue to drink and drive regardless of state BAC levels. Blow and drive devices help but don't always work because non-drinking friends will blow into the device to allow the vehicle to start. New fool proof devices are necessary and should be installed in the vehicle at the offenders expense... alcohol in your system and the vehicle won't start... no alcohol, start and drive the vehicle away.

Have you ever been tested at that level? Most people drive poorly at that level.

Also I don't like the way the federal government is pushing it on the states. I think this should be entirely a state matter.

Sometimes you are incredible, Tim.
