Drag and drop to your CDR program and burn a disk, then once your new OS is installed, drag and drop back to the new clean error free hard drive. I don't use programs for backing up critical data, I just drag and drop.

Can anyone tell me the best way to selectively save data from my hard drive ...Documents programs, Internet explorer favorites Etc.. I do have a cd-writer...

Steve

I use floppy disks and also a Zip disk but if the CD is easier that's sounds good also.

About the scanner you think is the problem.

Have you disconnected it?

Have you run a search for all files and folders pertaining to the suspected culprit and deleted all?

You could also go into the registry and delete all the keys referring to this scanner. If you're planning on a reformat you've got nothing to lose even if you create a problem.

Ed

If you want to give it one more shot before starting all over, here's a link to HP scanner FAQs and a link to download the software needed to run it. Perhaps you can try installing it and see if it overwrites your current problems.
