Hiam - you can at least take credit for preserving one investor's capital. I assume you also acted on your own advice... congratulations in any event on a good call.

It's kind of strange how the "line" moves - QS used to be in the fold of the faithful, now he's "negative", even though as far as I can tell his views have not changed at all.

I still believe that the kind of manic exaggeration of any possible positive aspects of a company's prospects, and the pooh-poohing of anything which might dim those expectations, is a dis-service to people who are trying to develop some perspective on their investments. I saw this on the CPQ thread in 1997, on the DELL thread in 1999, and on this thread earlier this year - and in each case the "middle of the road" posters who were suggesting that a prudent investment strategy might include some diversification, or taking profit off the table, or that perhaps not every rosy scenario would actually come to pass were slammed as bears in disguise or bashers with some hidden agenda.

I don't gloat over the misfortune of any investor and I made lots of mistakes this year, including some call buying on SUNW late in the year which did not pan out. I hope that the current stock performance will serve as a wake-up call to the ceaselessly positive SUNW posters and perhaps as a caution for those who look to them for guidance.
