Diamond H.."I have to believe, however, that QCOM felt that the G* system still had a good chance of using those things and that once produced, why not ship them?"

However, the question would be.. Why would Globalstar order 31,000 UT's. When the system had less than 10,000 subs over all 3 UT manufactures, And Globalstar already had 40,000 Qualcomm UT's in stock and in the distributor Pipeline.. Remember, Qualcomm G* phones are only sold in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere.. Most of the rest of the world sell either the ERICY or TELIT GSM G* phone..

If you were the CEO of Globalstar.. And had less than 12 weeks of cash left (120 million dollars) mid-way through June 2000.. Would you authorize to buy 40 million (31,000 pieces) of G* phones when you already had over 30,000 pieces "unsold"? And less than 10,000 customers (across all 3 phone manufactures) in six months of service roll-out?

And of course..

Valance is the Qualcomm Globalstar Phone Battery Supplier... and what did Valance get the other day..

"Valence Technology Receives Additional Order for Satellite Phone Batteries"

Contract total was valued at approximately $730,000..

biz.yahoo.com

So it appears that someone is planning on building a bunch of Satellite Phones this quarter!!

I wonder who that could be????

When Qualcomm needs "High Margin Revenue".. They build G* Phones!!!

BTW.. I queried QCOM IR on the status of G* phone production this Quarter. I have not received a response in 3 business days!!
