We're all in it together, globally. Foreigners won't tank our markets as you suggest because the whole thing will sink.

OTOH--a growing sense that the Fed might be powerless WOULD be harmful. Someone on one of these threads, tho, reminded us that on the way up we ignored the rate hikes until KABOOOM we crashed all at once. And it may be that we ignore the cuts until KABOOM we rally unexpectedly.

Over the weekend I quickly glanced through a book: 'The impending internet depression' and picked out one piece of info that made me take notice. An analysis of the crash of 29 was made and it was emphasized that the depression that followed could have been avoided except that the Fed caught sight of a little inflation after the crash and actually raised rates. This tightening actually helped initiate the great depression.

I am sure that there were a number of factors that came together at the wrong time to create the depression and i don't want to debate it's causes. However, it seems that the feds control of interest rates has caused this latest downdraft, and with the same token they could make it a lot worse. I for one will be watching closely their next move. If they do not lower rates I am worried that they will make this recession much more agonizing.

kyrosl...."kindness of friends and neighbors"

only reason "they" hang out in "our" neighborhood, is because it is much safer then where they live....."kindness" has nothing to do with it...more return on investment....

there is no inflation, the components of the cpi and ppi are outdated and need revision....and the results are always revised up/down at some point....you can't manage an economy on bad data...the very same data that caused the fed to raise rates fearing inflation....

one only has to review greenspan humphrey hawkins testimony over the years...his predictions are at least 30% off of reality...with such a variable, difficult to "fine tune" an economy that was running at optimum.....turn the screw on the carburetor too much, and the engine coughs and sputters until it stalls...
