Without naming it he kind of jumped ahead to the MSM5000 or whatever its successor will be called. << KYO wanted to contrast dire GSM predictions with their 25% growth projection in cdma handsets >> How do you spell Nokia? <ggg> Whoops! KYO is fortunate ... Nokia NOT going to play in Japan, at all ... BUT, they plan to play big time in the largest CDMA market in the world, and the largest emerging market for CDMA. Meantime, I noticed something interesting at the Verizon outlet yesterday. The Kyocera QCP-2035 (as it is referred to on Verizon's web site) is branded QUALCOMM on the face plate. Debossed Kyocera (large letters but not very noticeable) is stamped on the back. Salesmen refer to it as a QUALCOMM phone, not a Kyocera. As they say, its a branding issue. Also of interest. The Nokia 5185i is still not qualified for the newly launched 2-way SMS ... but neither are any of the other tri-modes (my Audiovox CDM 9000, Motorola StarTAC 7868, Motorola Timeport P8767). The single tri-mode that has qualified is the Kyocera QCP-2035a. 5185i moving exceptionally well. Its not to my taste, but the full assortment of color face plates has big appeal. With no promo it is now selling for $149.95. With 1 year single rate contract $49.99. Kyocera QCP-2035 is $39.99 as is Audiovox CDM9000. They're giving them away. << I fully expect to find Europe mired in wireless recession come 2002 - and I've not manufactured a single handset... >> US is in wireless recession NOW! - Eric -
