John,

Athlon will also get smaller on 0.13u.

P4 has a very high cost/performance ratio, and it is tied to expensive dual-channel DRAM.

It doesn't fit the mainstream market.

re:at any one point in time, you can find holes
if I recall it correctly few years back people argued that "intel inside" is better because there are no holes and you can always count on intel's roadmap. The question is what does "intel inside" mean now?

-Albert
ps judging by the last 2 years, "amd inside" would be a better label but I am not sure if intel can use it

John,

Won't P4 be getting smaller on .13? Didn't most new generation processors come out in a larger size, including Athlon?

True, but the .13u version of P4 will have to compete with the next generation of AMD processor - Clawhammer, which will have approximately the same die size, but will include 64bit support.

Isn't P3 going to .13 also? And will P3 be too slow when it moves to the low end?

It will, but it will only match current .18u Athlon in performance, and AMD is moving to .13u as well, shortly after Intel. Even when Intel has all the weapons deployed, it will be a horse race at best.
